We're here! Our first Winter Solstice Sadhana Celebration in Lake Wales, Florida!
We got a warm personal welcome from the event director Anand who escorted us to a special place to park for better accessibility for Nick. We're in viewing distance of the lake and the gorgeous sunset.
After registration and langar-style dinner (sitting in rows on the ground while people come along and scoop food onto the plates we brought from home) we had a camp orientation with the current leaders of the 3HO organization that Yogi Bhajan started many years ago (3HO = Heathy, Happy, Holy)
The theme for this years Winter Solstice is:
Understand through compassion, or you will misunderstand the times.
I couldn't imagine a better theme to focus on right now than seeking to understand through compassion for others, especially with the political climate we are living in right now.
Throughout the evening we chanted, danced, and got to know one another. I haven't seen Nick dance in years, and dancing with him tonight will likely be my favorite memory of all of 2016. At the end of the evening we finally relaxed to a blissed-out 45 minute gong session before heading to bed ASAP in preparation for the 3AM wake up call for morning meditation. Good night y'all. Sat Nam.
